February 2024 News

We’re officially into 2024! This year marks the 45th anniversary of St. Andrew Legal Clinic. Since our inception in 1979, our mission has remained constant: to provide accessible, high-quality legal services to those in need, regardless of their financial circumstances.

Collaboration with the Family Justice Center of Washington County (FJCWC)

This year has already seen an expansion of our legal services through our partnership with the Family Justice Center of Washington County. Through a generous grant from the Oregon Law Foundation, St. Andrew Legal Clinic has been providing free consultations for survivors of violence and abuse every Tuesday. The priority of these consultations is to provide clients with a personal “legal roadmap” for their case. By empowering survivors in family law cases, St. Andrew Legal Clinic seeks to prevent further abuse, homelessness, loss of child custody, and to decrease repeated court hearings.

SALC Night Clinic Program

The Clinic is forging ahead with in-person Night Clinic every Wednesday night at 6:00 PM. In addition, we are partnering with local law firms and the Multnomah Bar Association Public Service Committee to sponsor Night Clinic.

If this is something that interests you, please reach out. We are also seeking volunteers for the remainder of the 2024 Night Clinic dates. Please consider signing-up as a volunteer by completing this form.

SALC Spotlight

We are honored to announce that one of our former attorneys, Chris Martin, has been appointed as a judge by Governor Tina Kotek to the Multnomah County Circuit Court. Chris Martin, who served as a dedicated staff attorney at St. Andrew Legal Clinic, has exemplified a profound commitment to justice and advocacy for the most vulnerable in our community throughout her career. With her extensive experience representing low-income Oregonians in family law cases, along with her compassionate approach and unwavering dedication, we are confident that Judge Martin will continue to serve with integrity and fairness on the family law bench.

Having previously clerked for Multnomah County Circuit Court Judge Diana Stuart and actively volunteering with organizations such as the Multnomah County Children’s Representation Project and our SALC Night Clinic, Judge Martin brings a wealth of knowledge and a deep understanding of the complex issues facing families in our community. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Judge Martin on this well-deserved appointment, and we look forward to seeing her continue to make a positive impact in the pursuit of justice for all.

Access to affordable legal representation remains as vital today as it was four and a half decades ago. It is a cornerstone of justice, ensuring that every individual, regardless of their circumstances, has a voice and can navigate the complexities of the legal system with dignity and fairness. At SALC, we continue to remain committed to serving the vulnerable and marginalized members of our community.
